Site History
HuntersPointSF events take place on the site where the Hunters Point Power Plant once stood. The Plant produced power for local residents for about 75 years. In response to local desire to see it closed, PG&E worked closely with local leaders and neighbors to do so. The Plant closed in 2006 when another energy source was set up.
Working with local leaders on the Hunters Point Project Advisory Committee, PG&E also began to clean the site. The 30+ acre site was cleaned over 10 years. Efforts used new dust control methods, removed soil, and used local workers.
PG&Eās clean-up plan included creating the Hunters Point Shoreline on the waterfront and a blacktop event space where the Plant once stood. NOW Hunters Point ran events there from 2014-2022. Those events attracted 70,000 people to over 300 events.
Today, events continue under the guidance of local leaders. Hunters Point Shoreline also remains open to the public and is a mainstay for local recreation. An active substation remains on the site.
